Remembering China
A Sensational Poem
In the land of China, where my childhood was spent
I'm transported back now as if time has relented
I close my eyes and the memories flood back
My senses are alive, there's no need to backtrack
The scent of jasmine tea fills up my nose
As I sit with my family, everybody knows
The fragrance of roasted duck wafts through the air
And the sound of chopsticks clinking is everywhere
Steaming bowls of rice, hot and fluffy and white
Fill the room with a comforting, homely delight
My tastebuds dance as I take in each bite
Of dim sum, dumplings, and noodles, all done right
I remember the feel of the silk dresses I wore
And the way the fabric bounced and swayed as I explored
The streets of Shanghai, bustling with life
The feeling of adventure cutting through any strife
The sound of street vendors shouting and hawking
The taste of sweet mangoes that we loved to go picking
All these sensations come flooding back to me
As if I'm back in time, truly living free
The feel of the sun on my skin at midday
As I played in the courtyard with friends, laughing away
Jumping rope and playing tag until it was night
Running around like wild children, pure delight
The scent of sandalwood incense, burning bright
In the ancient temple where we prayed every night
Watching the monks bowing their heads in prayer
Taking in the solemnity, the reverence in the air
The sound of the bamboo flute, a melody so sweet
Played by a street musician, sitting alone on the street
The beauty of the music, floating through the air
Making my heart soar, taking me somewhere
I see the bright colors of the lanterns in the night
As we walked through the streets, bathed in their light
The smell of sizzling street food, tempted us to try
Each new delicacy, as we walked by and by
I remember the texture of the silk embroidery
On the dresses, my mother made for me with such clarity
The feeling of pride as I twirled around in delight
In the beautiful dresses, my heart light
The taste of shaved ice on a hot summer's day
As we sat under the trees, taking in the cool shade
The feeling of the icy treat melting on my tongue
A sweet relief, making my body young
All these sensations come flooding back to me
As if I'm reliving those moments so free
My senses reawakened, and a time capsule found
Taking me back to a land where I was once bound
In China, my childhood memories come alive
As I use my senses to take a nostalgic dive
A sensory journey through time, a magical flight
As I reminisce over memories, once out of sight
The sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures
All bring back the rich tapestry of my childhood fixtures
A symphony of sensations that tell my story
A sensational poem, a tribute to my own glory.
