Reflections in the River

I reach out I can not touch you

Reflections in the River

I stand at the river’s edge,

its waters moving relentless and cold,

each ripple a reflection of the past,

every wave a memory I cannot hold.

The stones under my feet are smooth,

carrying echoes of footsteps I cannot trace,

I reach toward the water, hoping to touch

a fragment of the life we once shared.

The wind moves across the surface,

carrying whispers I can almost hear,

I lean closer, letting its song fill me,

a delicate thread connecting then and now.

Leaves drift past, caught in the current,

each one a story I cannot retrieve,

I watch them float, fragile and fleeting,

I feel your presence in the soft motion.

Night falls over the river, stars reflected,

tiny lights trembling on the restless water,

I whisper your name into the dark,

it returns to me, carried in the flow.
