Red Flags

What I thought was protection was actually manipulation,

playing the cards a certain way to see how it might benefit you in the end,

hoping that because you knew I'd go up to bat for you,

that I would take the hits you refuse to bare.

My stomach felt uneasy,

my heart was always racing to catch up to my mind,

Stop! Run away!

it kept yelling,

but this can't be right, right?

So I turned a blind eye in hopes I was wrong about you,

that you couldn't repeat the scripts I laid out for you from someone before.

But that's what red flags were for,

and I'm the fool for not paying attention to any of them.
