Reasons to Stay

digging for hope

MUNA is making new music you haven’t danced to yet. The tides want to kiss your toes again. Your pronouns might not exist until you invent them. June saturates the city and you are all glitter. You can take Skylar to their first lesbian bar. You can be a queer elder who gets to grow old. The kids have so much to teach you. Your dog nuzzles into the crook of your legs whenever you curl up on the couch, rests his head on your thigh. You want more tattoos. More honeycomb ice cream. Rainy mornings that taste sweeter with a lavender London Fog. Alpine sunrises smell like faith and you can choose your own gods. Your friends are having babies and you get to meet them, be a soft place to land when it’s all jagged edges. Her whole tiny hand wraps around your forefinger and it won’t always be like this. You cannot save her, you cannot save the world, but you can save yourself. Maybe it’s the same thing. Maybe it’s enough to try.
