He’s nine years old, we traveled to this place,
No thought, nor known, what years would bring to count.
We climbed upon the rocks and then we raced,
Up steps that took us high upon the mount.
*
He laughed as air escaped my lungs in blasts,
And ran ahead with vigor of his age.
Let’s go old man, I’m winning and you’re last.
We laughed and joked about the race for days.
*
Though love was rich, his life was lost in vain.
Two decades old, he’s taken from this place
To run upon the Mountain ne’er again,
My son, the champ, has won a different race.
Forevermore, I long with him to climb,
To race with him the days of summertime.
