Quietude

for my sons and grandsons

We seemed to find solace in the sun by the lake

Going nowhere, just enjoying every moment we could take...

~

Watching for the fish to bob our red and white corks, we waited,

"Casting" off all our cares (except for the catch we anticipated.)

~ ~

The water was so tranquil, lulling us with solar glow,

What a day we did embrace, a gift Mother Nature did bestow.

~ ~ ~

As the clouds drifted by, creating a cool breeze and reprieve,

We lifted up our poles, bringing in the fish we did retrieve.

~ ~ ~ ~

Our souls were bathed in peace from the quietude we shared,

Escaping, albeit temporarily, the storms of life that flared.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Reckoning that we should get back home as the day turned to dusk,

Thinking time is such a thief of fun, it's so rude, so salty, so brusque!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Author's Notes: This poem is for Randy Baker's Prompted 5 Challenge. It requires a minimum of 12 lines and at least 13 words from the cloud prompt he gives.

Randy, I used the following words from the prompt: solace, sun, nowhere, moment, water, tranquil, glow, embrace, clouds, breeze, peace, quietude, escaping, reckoning, home, dusk, salty.

Thank you for the challenge!

This is a wonderful poem, Shirley! I have always loved the tranquility of still waters on a lake. In windy Minnesota, a tranquil lake was a rare thing. There’s nothing quite like it to sooth the soul.
