Quietly slipping away

memo to self

I dismiss it as a tangled mind,

a habit of overthinking,

But this is a real and heavy weight,

And slowly, I am sinking.

It is not a storm I choose to make,

Or a game of make-believe,

It is a battle in my chest,

A truth I must perceive.

I watch myself in the dark

As I lie here in my bed,

While I am fighting for my life

Inside a fractured head.

It is an anchor in the deep,

A weight I cannot trace,

And my denial only builds

A cold and hollow space.

I cannot stay where I am minimized,

Or forced to hide my pain,

If I cannot choose to understand,

There is nothing left to gain.

I need someone to stand by me,

Not turn and look away,

If I cannot see the depth of this,

I will lose myself one day.
