Questions

(And answers)

By Elsa Michaela | @surfthoughtPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

:

I want to ask; ‘How do you see the sky?’

Is it the same blue?

The same sky as mine?

I want to know when I look up at the moon and drift in thought

Are you laying on your back,

Thinking the same thoughts?

When you smell the sea does it take you back?

To when you swam with your brothers,

(Or perhaps it was another figure)

And watched boats in the fog,

Saw an anchor black against the fret,

A historical map, inaccurate and fearful

(Or was that a dream?)

When you hear the waves do you hear what I hear?

Do you feel the water in your lungs?

(As natural as the wings in your sleep)

Does the sound carry you like a mother?

Do you feel the breath of an ancestor?

Do you note the stillness with wonder?

When you hear a song

One that stops you in your tracks

That seems spoken from your own mind

Do you listen and listen again?

Follow its streams until a tide,

Inside you

Rushes to fill in the small hollow parts?

When you fall in love

Is it instant?

In fateful passing,

Do you fall in love with momentary connection

A smile so familiar that it must have been before,

Now passed down through time.

I come here often

To play in the cold waters.

To stand under the lights of the village

That stays in relative safety

so high above the shore

I come here looking for an answer

…Yeah, me too
