What's considered safe?

A warm bed with 600 thread count sheets

A church for guidance and worship.

Babysitting your niece or nephew.

Sitting in your car.

Standing outside of a store.

Protesting.

It's not safe when you're black

We don't deserve…

To live in friendly neighborhoods

Take a walk

Go for a jog

Shop at stores

Spend money

Spend time with our families

Laugh

Play music

Be happy...

We don't deserve a thing if you are black…

What are we expected to do?

Be humble

Shut up and dribble

Pull up our bootstraps

Be thugs

Be lazy

Ask for government assistance

Live in a single-parent home

Go to jail

To be a menace to society

We don't deserve nice things

What is our mental space?

Paranoia

Trauma

Nightmares

PTSD

Frightened

Worried

Tired

We're supposed to suck it up

What are we?

Fighters

Survivors

Queens and Kings

Smart

Forgivers

Parents

Goal Diggers

"FEAR"- By Kendrick Lamar

I’ll prolly die from witnesses leavin’ me false accused,

I’ll prolly die from thinkin’ that me and your hood was cool

Or maybe die from pressin’ the line, actin’WE too extra,

Or maybe die because these smokers are more than desperate

I’ll prolly die from one of these bats and blue badges

Body slammed on black and white paint, my bones snappin’

Without us, you wouldn't have…

Beyonce "Single Ladies" singing, Michael Jordan dunking, Viola Davis snot bubble acting, Denzel Washington heartthrob loving, Mary Kenner sanitary belt inventing, Katherine Johnson's astronaut sending, Fredrick Jones AC inventing and Janet Jackson sex-positive sharing human beings.
