The Wannabe Orange

I want to be orange, not always preferred.

Rather than people-pleasing purple, welcome in everyone’s world.

It’s okay to be purple, if I’m being myself,

But intentionally changing my hue to suit others,

Well, that’s an ugly color.

Being orange for orange’s sake is something I’d frown upon also,

But if you’re naturally orange, do you, and be proud.

Be a fruit, be a hair color people call red,

The one thing you may have in common with purple,

Which is also called red when colorizing a cabbage or some lettuce leaves,

Calling things the wrong color is one of my pet peeves.

Hiding a quirk like that, covering up the orange with some purple,

Something like: “the world is just fine as it is, nothing bothers me”

Is not becoming on anybody.

So if you’re orange, embrace it,

If you’re purple, do the same,

Be yourself for your own sake,

Don’t waste your time playing their game.

‘Cause even if you’re purple, some may say you have too much blue in you,

If you’re orange, you may have too much yellow,

But either way, some may say, there’s just too much red in there for their taste.

So purple, you can keep envying orange,

Know that orange may eye you the same way.

If the two of you join forces, we’d have some delicious brown,

‘Cause that’s the yummiest color to eat.
