purple noses (a symbol of death)

by emma mark

By Emma MarkPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

his nose was purple

but not only that

it was long

and pointy

and evil somehow

And i just knew

if i looked

it would be my nose too

he chases me

round the house

round the yard

into the kitchen

my kitchen

but not mine

my cousin's kitchen

i scream

my brother too

i turn to him

too late

a purple nose is his fate

i cry

i run

nowhere is safe

nowhere is unaffected

it's hopeless

"look at me"

he says

"it's not what you think"

but i know it is

i think

in the end

i look

my nose turns

i awake screaming

but somehow

i knew

it was inevitable

but maybe

maybe

that's not

a bad thing

maybe

he was right

maybe

just maybe

there's a chance

i was wrong

maybe

just maybe

a purple nose

isn't something to fear

maybe

it's something

sacred

something new

something

desirable

i never knew

because i never

tried to know
