A Short Story about Ninjas, Bungee Jumping in the Scottish Highlands, and Scientists in the Arizona Desert
Standing on the edge, I glimpsed over the tip of my shoes and saw the ice-cold river run 40 meters below my feet. The Scottish Highlands are not the coziest environment in October even though the view was impeccable. Before my eyes laid an ocean of red, orange, and yellow trees that reached the horizon. My fingers felt a little numb from the crisp autumn air as I waved into the camera. The hand on my back signaled softly but firmly that it was time and there was no way back. My knees felt soft and all my instincts, my head, and my body yelled at me to stop, to turn around, to hold on to something for my dear life, and to crawl back to safety.

THE JUMP
She was not here, on this day of all days, she was not here to see him jump. He had left the branch's safety, which he had been sitting on a split-second ago. He was now, mid-air, thinking about what a beautiful morning he had chosen. Golden sunlight flooded the forest and insects danced in the sun rays that reached through the treetops towards the dusty ground. A lukewarm breeze promised a hot summer day. Yet, there was something else in the air. An invisible tension had taken over the small clearing in the woods. The crowd that had gathered was abuzz.

Try this new approach for a better 2023!
Have you ever done New Year's resolutions? You might have noticed that they almost never work, or at least only for a couple of months. Then after, let's say six months, the good intentions begin to fade and we start to forget about them.

The Ancient Game
There weren't always dragons in the valley. Certainly not during most of Leister Doyle's long life. Maybe even too long, some would add, who had met him in person on one of his rare visits to the village. He had always been a grumpy fellow but after his wife died twenty-three years ago he became especially resentful towards everything and everyone who dared to exist outside of his home.

One of my favorite words in the English language is "Serendipity". It means to observe or to experience something new and unexpected ... or simply: a lucky coincidence.

SHADOWCREEK HIGH
Truth or Dare "I mean, I'm still wearing a towel, so technically I'm not naked. The post already has 36likes ... let's refresh one more time." Considering the fact that only about 15,000 people lived in this town, it's fair to say that 36 likes on a picture mean that you are not a nobody. Saige looked outside. A store owner on the other side of the street was busy putting up Halloween decorations: Skeleton body parts and fake spiderwebs. Saige thought to herself: "This is ridiculous." She opened up the app one more time and deleted the post just when the piercing sound of the tiny doorbell rang. Ava, Saige's best friend, came strolling into the small Starbucks in the main intersection at the small city center.
