it's not about the story,

it's not about the plot;

it's not about the wordplay,

it's not about the characters.

not anymore.

it's not about the villain,

nor the hero's standing prose.

it's not about the rising action

nor the tension by the climax.

not anymore.

it's about the race of the author,

it's about the agenda that you push.

it's about the party that you're in,

the pronouns that you use.

the story doesn't matter anymore-

it's about the sexuality of the characters.

it's about the identity of the villain.

it's about the ethnicity of the hero.

...representation is important-

i don't mean to put that down.

but why can't you just appreciate

the STORY?

why do you have to look at my "agenda"?

why can't you just look at the PLOTLINE

instead of the gender of my

chosen main characters?

publishers aren't fair.

"you've got a good story...

but your main character

is white."

this is not fair.

A/N: I do not mean to disgrace anyone or any beliefs using this poem, but I literally cannot help but notice how backhanded publishers have become these days. I can only hope that this ends sometime soon, and that we stop "sensitivity reading" and start looking at the storyline instead of fixating ourselves on the identities of the characters. Thank you for reading.

So true. It’s the pendulum swinging from one extreme to another. Too bad we can’t have balance. Discrimination is awful, no matter who it’s aimed at.

I think society is a bit programmed nowadays. There should be a place for everyone and without shame or censure.
