There once was a man in great need,
Who wanted to cultivate weed.
He sold his whole crop
For dollars a pop
Now daily he's richer indeed.
I don't know where this came from. It's not my usual type of topic. Living in Canada, it's now quite legal. Stores abound all over, even offering delivery and discounts for seniors--as if their sometimes confused minds need more muddling. But people can at least use it for pain relief. A small amount can be gown for personal use, but is illegal to sell without a license.

Wild Waves of Gold
Trembling wheat in the sun-baked winds look like wild waves of gold, skillfully swaying in the glittering day—the fields are an endless and open invitation that calls the free wanderers, the dreamers, and anyone needing a change of pace into its splendor, into its sense of comfortability, into a world separate from the concrete and gray—we may tremble with it—with the wheat spun from the blazing sun, with the carefree visions that may be out of reach for many, including ourselves. The rat race dies here and the unwavering winds bury it in soil while we dance as free as the wheat does.

Spectating
I can't imagine dying like this, in a place like this; on a cold, dirty pavement with rush hour traffic screaming by and a crowd looking on while paramedics struggle to find space to move. Who could? Deep down we all think there should be a reason, a moment of clarity... or a family presence, at least. For this man, this boy, the rail thin woman lighting a cigarette in a faux fur jacket will have to do - she's been here since the start, her eyes tracking the movement of my shoulders as we fight to keep him on the right side of the line.
