Postcards From Hell

(Truth is stranger than fiction)

On a seven forty seven

in a different time zone

different customs different rules

and a long way from home

fill a false bottom suitcase

with top chinese powder

but the plane just stopped

and the sirens are getting louder

searched and arrested

the end of your schemes

didn’t plan on getting caught

or that’s how it seemed

for a kilo of smack

you’ve thrown away your life

what about your kids

what about your wife

I suppose they’ll be getting

postcards from hell

each with its own

different story to tell

a cold grey chill

greets a bleak Bangkok dawn

a bullet chipped post

sits on a lonely prison lawn

a guard comes to tell you

your sentence is set

he’s holding a blindfold

and your last cigarette

sad poetry
