Post Celebration Blues

Every single time

Wow what a night

Boy did we have a good time

A celebration to end all celebrations

As was our due

We’d put in the hard yards

Fought for what we needed and won.

***

Then the sun rises

With reality of a new day

Waking with a frown instead of a smile

Thoughts tumbling

Full of agonising regrets

Feelings that beat me black and blue.

***

It’s just not right

The voice inside my mind

No reason to hang my head in shame

Yes I did have fun

That’s not against the law

It’s certainly no reason for all this pain.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I feel like that too at times. It's like happiness is just a short interval between two sorrows. This was a very beautifully written poem!

Beautiful poetry. Thank you for sharing😊.

  • Excellent points, you win and succeed, and then imposter syndrome kicks in, you think you should have failed and need to restart. Kick I.S. out the door and wallow and bathe in your success, you deserve it
