Poison Thorns of the Black rose

It grew in silence,

under heavy skies,

a black rose shining

where nothing else survived.

Its petals were velvet,

its scent was a dream,

but hidden beneath it

were thorns sharp and mean.

A brush of the finger,

a careless, soft touch,

and the poison would linger,

its bite far too much.

So many were drawn

to its dark, lovely face,

never guessing the danger

that lived in its grace.

It stood in the shadows,

alone in the gloom,

a rose that brought beauty,

and also, a tomb
