A One Minute Play By Micah Glyn Clayton

Characters:

ROSE- a young girl

SUN- the sun

Spring 2020, during quarantine. A backyard. The sky is pink, the light is pale.

ROSE comes outside.

ROSE: Good morning, Sun.

SUN: (not fully risen) Good morning, Rose.

ROSE: It’s awfully quiet.

SUN: It’s awfully early. No one else is awake yet.

ROSE: Just you and me?

SUN: Just you and me.

ROSE: I like it. Just the two of us.

SUN: Me too. You make good company, Rose.

ROSE smiles. Beat.

ROSE: It’s kind of lonely though. I’d like for the other people to wake up and join us.

SUN: The whole world is lonely right now, Rose. When everyone wakes up, they won’t be able to join us.

ROSE: Just you and me?

SUN: Just you and me.

ROSE: That’s good too.

The sky swells pink then turns gold as the sun rises.
