Pigeon's Eyes

A prose poem

To be free; to see it all from a place hidden away, yet in plain sight; to fly far away from it all and be closer than ever at the same time; to truly live while being an inch away from death. To taste the voices of those below and feel their ideas take flight; to live every moment as the last. This is what it means to live life to its fullest. This is what it means to be me.

Backstory: This quick prose resulted from watching a pigeon fly away. I started to wonder how they see the world and wrote a quick poem/blurb from that perspective. Years later this plus covid inspired my short story Carnivore Chorus about a lone pigeon in a post-apocalyptic covid NYC. That short story ended up getting published in an anthology "Six Feet from Tomorrow". Funny how old writing can still inspire today's writing.
