let my fingers create music from your soul
and maybe the world could find a smile among your never-ending love of noise
the sound of recognised family voices alerts my mind to the warmth of Nonna's cooking
wafting scents of "diverse" perfume and catch-up giggles
you may remain untouched but from the toddler's ear found note bashing
within the frozen timestamped moments you breathe for
she will be tall enough to find the tall melodies inside your protected strings
and play for the memory of the ones you came from
old enough now to recreate the smell of Nonna's approving hugs
and the giggles of friends never forgotten; always here
but endlessly young enough to make use of the gift of noisey,
unknown,
soul music
her smile creeps wiser
as her slender toddler fingers press hard on the memories
fading ever knowingly into sounds of kindness,
sadness,
love.
the voices of the dinner table
the rich scent of kitchen flavours
focus her mind on her roots and blood
made powerful
from every moment memorised so carefully within the notes of an invisible symphony
that is where the hearts of every long lost loved one will be welcomed
