Personal Growth
What does home mean for me?
Smiling at progress in the mirror,
To feel each corner of my mouth stretch from ear to ear,
Without force and opposite thoughts in my head,
That's what home feels like to me.
Helping others that are in lesser situations than I,
To hug someone drowning in sorrow,
Sharing advice without objection,
Offering more than what I have for the greater good,
To show the embodiment of love in everything I do,
That's what home feels like to me.
Having chaos spread like wildfire,
To feel every feeling so deeply,
Though, still being able to remain calm and in control,
That's what home allows me to perceive.
Home has always been a coveted place for most,
Somewhere they can always run back to,
Someone they can always build security into,
Without self foundation, everything eventually shatters.
I've had many rentals in people, places, and things,
I only recently found what I've wanted home to be for me,
She is all that I've said previously,
I would talk about what should be until I was blue in the face,
With a single gesture of love, she helped build the home of my dreams inside of me.
She made me realize that what I was creating in others,
Rippled reflections of what was missing within,
Broken promises that I refused to keep to my own desires,
Empty heartache that left me feeling like an imposter in my own skin.
Together we have the architecture of a lifetime,
We've dug up all our past misconceptions and laid down the soil,
A home is supposed to be a safe place where you know your heart will sing,
And ours is the symphony that will ricochet off the walls.
She is not just home to me,
She is everything that home means to me,
Every effortless moment that goes into investing in each other,
Home is everything I've always wanted to be,
It is everything the word love is supposed to be.
