Everyone we know will go away

Those rivers and mountains always stay

That sun is shining high in the sky

Watching the moon on the rise

That muddy window clouds your mind

Makes life harder to find

But the trout were jumping on that day

Some sort of perpetual delay

And I'll be searching

With that sun in my eyes

From peaks beyond the skies

Smile back at me trailing behind

That nightly escape from time

Shooting stars cast across my eyes

Just fishing for some ideas in my mind

Storm clouds gather down the plain

Big blue sky what did you hide

Cause I still just cant see

Everything was washed away from me

But from moonshine till the break of day

What happened to all that time

Just seems I’m always two sunsets behind

So I hear those dogs howling

Drifting past the miles in my mind

I can see that masterpiece in your lies

And the future is too hard to find

So i see you in my arms

Songbirds and whippoorwills seen a million times

And that big red fire in the sky

Oh those Rocky Mountain nights

You just can't leave those Appalachians behind
