Perhaps I Did Not Love

A Poem

Perhaps I did not love because I did not see,

How someone could love the likes of me.

I could have been a bit more brave,

Had I known a way I could still be saved.

Perhaps I did not love because I did not believe,

That someone would come and never leave.

I was too afraid to be left alone,

That I settled to live my life on my own.

Perhaps I did not love because I did not hope,

Because hoping is painful when you’ve been hurt for so long.

How could there be a soul who could stay all the way,

And still dare to love despite seeing all my pain?

Perhaps I did not love because you were not there,

And I did not feel that anyone at all would care.

Had I only known the likes of you,

I'd have believed that someone could still love me true.

Perhaps I did not love because I did not see,

How someone could love the likes of me.

But now you have come and you have made me believe,

And all I want is to love you for as long as I live.
