Perfumed Kisses
He lay awake upon his bed,
Waiting for her to return.
The evening shadows filled the room,
While the bedside lamp still burned.
He closed his eyes and listened,
For her footsteps on the floor.
Then suddenly he smelt her perfume,
As she quietly opened the door.
A little kiss fell on his lips,
So tender and so light.
He smiled and put his arms around her,
And held her close that night.
Her perfume lingered on his pillow,
As she lay beside him there.
He gently kissed her rosy cheeks,
And stroked her silken hair.
He loved the fragrance that she wore,
It always made him smile.
And even when she went away,
It stayed with him a while.
The years went by so quickly,
Their love continued to grow.
And every time she kissed him,
Her perfume told him so.
But one day life grew lonely,
And she was no longer there.
Her perfume stood upon the shelf,
Beside her empty chair.
He missed her gentle kisses,
And the warmth of her embrace.
He missed the lovely perfume,
And the smile upon her face.
One night he lay upon his bed,
With memories in his head.
He closed his eyes and whispered,
I wish you were here instead.
Then suddenly he smelt her perfume,
The fragrance he knew so well.
And something brushed against his lips,
A kiss that broke his lonely spell.
He opened up his weary eyes,
But nobody was there.
Just the fragrance of her perfume,
Floating gently through the air.
He smiled and closed his eyes again,
As a tear rolled down his cheek.
For love had found its way back home,
Through a perfumed kiss so sweet.
