Pennarth Baccarat was your proper stud name

Cara - once met never forgotten

We survived The Royal Windsor Horseshow - Once

Pennarth Baccarat was your proper stud name

We bought you on a Sunday then home you came

A really wild child

Cara you’re my first horse

Flight from fear was your particular mantra

With me attached but mostly on your own

Across the yard or the fields

Some said you were dangerous

Yes we were crazy

Once broken you were as flighty

With or without me on board did it matter

With dressage what a disaster

In or outdoors no arena could keep your spirit in

You taught me how to stay on and how to ride

From you I learnt patience and understanding

I knew you and trusted you

You knew me and trusted me

On a bad day I’d look at you and put the tack away

On a good day we would take the world on

Hunting, eventing, jumping, hacking but not dressage

We were besties, we were a team

Just like me you got older

Cushing’s and laminitis they took over

There was no way back and so it had to be done

You saw the vet arrive and took flight from fear

There was little conversation

Just a heavy sigh, a snatch of some hay and whoomph

You hit the grass that you loved so much

Others followed but Cara you will always be my first horse
