Paper Kisses
You wrote me letters, soft and kind,
Each one a whisper from afar,
You sealed them with your gentle hands,
And kissed the fold beneath the star.
I kept them safe, each word a flame,
Each page a warmth that never fades,
Your scent still lingers on the lines,
Like summer caught in winter’s shades.
One day they stopped, the post grew still,
No stamp, no sound, no trace of you,
The world kept spinning as it does,
But I stood silent, split in two.
Now when the mail falls through the door,
I almost hear your soft refrain,
And though the ink has long since dried,
The paper breathes your name again.
Love lives not only in the flesh,
But in the marks we choose to leave,
And every kiss you wrote to me,
Still teaches how the heart can grieve.
