Our True Colors

Lemonade Kaleidoscope by Lauren Vieira

I once saw a color

that doesn't exist.

All attempts at description

it beautifully resists.

Like a reflective rainbow,

but so much more,

it held a universal elegance

that all would adore.

I once tried to define myself

to no avail.

Some call me Asian, some white,

but I really can't tell.

I find I'm something

all together new,

yet esoterically old,

I'm someone like you.

My color both is and isn't,

like the one I once saw,

but it's rather irrelevant

for I am something more raw.

I am my passion for life

and my righteous tears of pain.

I am my creative light

and darkness one in the same.

I am human,

multifaceted and complex.

I am the questions, "Why?"

and, "What comes next?"

Both present and past

exist inside me

fueling my potential to create

the future I wish to see.

Though I often feel

like the anomaly,

I know that everyone else

is also like me.

We're all a different shade.

Together we make a gradient

of infinite, wondrous colors

with our own unique radiance.
