The history of our people

Has always been one of complexity

But no not because of us we were quite simple people

We lead with authority in tribes of bright people

By Magdalena Kula Manchee on Unsplash

We were forced into slavery by man unknown to us

Kind of like how we were pushed to the back of the bus

But we did eventually escape when we all worked together

Remember the underground railroad

Harriet Tubman decided she wouldn't fall victim and stay a slave

And for our people she did help save

And oh let's not forget Martin Luther King

We all remember that he had a dream

That we could all be equal and our children could be friends

All he wanted was for our brethren to make amends

And yet he was shot and killed by someone who hated us

And we still face the same oppression to this day

Just because it's well hidden doesn't mean that time made it fade

And when we raise our fist and say BLM

There were many that showed we don't matter to them

And while it's quite a shame we don't have time to back down

We need to stand for our community and for this town

We as the people should all come together

We must remember our roots

We must save our people
