our first party together
a poem.
from across the room, i see it - you.
-
daring green eyes look through me,
into me, seeing parts of me i cannot hide
from the truth - and the truth is my blue
eyes look back at you, into you, seeing too.
-
how curious to meet you here tonight.
-
a stranger so familiar it's as if we've
known each other before, some long lost
star-crossed lover's life ago and i feel
the pulse, the pull, the passion yet unknown.
-
the chemistry of the room has changed.
-
it's as if you know, and you know i know,
that we have some link inexplicable and
invisible to the naked eye - an intangible
thread that snaps into place with a glance.
-
why do you look at me like that?
-
you stare as if looking into a mirror,
and i look as if staring into a glass;
we each see the other as a reflection of
our selves, looking back, and wonder -
-
how long will it take you to talk to me?
-
the draw towards the other intensifies,
slowly we begin to orbit - too afraid
to make physical contact; exhilarating
signals portend sweet possibilities.
-
should i say something first?
-
from across the room, i see it - love.
or, at least, what i want love to be.
