My dear Eragon,

From the water, dark and warm,

there you resided.

Suddenly thrusted into a new air,

Bright, dry and unfamiliar.

I held you to my breast,

Skin to skin.

Nestled under my heart,

Now cradled in my arms.

Hello, my little one.

My tiny bud of a human.

Straight from the earth,

Tiny cries like little birds,

Red face, flower bud mouth.

So small,

No bigger than fresh bread.

A scent so faint,

Nothing but pure.

Tiny hands, feather soft,

no bigger than a dandelion,

Grasping at air,

Reaching for my soft voice

Tiny button eyes,

Closed like little shells,

Too tired and week to see the sun.

Small, uncallused feet,

No bigger than pecans,

Curled toes,

No longer cramped.

I waited for you.

Eager to hold you in the crook of my arm.

My little one,

My infant.
