Original Sin
And The Struggle With Our Perceived Image
Pushing on the door you’ve gotta pull to get in
Everybody’s panicked jumping out of their skin
Waiting on the signal that tells us when to begin
Skating on the ice to find the surface is thin
Bearing battle scars and arsenic in a glass
Counting shooting stars and catching them as they pass
Holding on to promises that we know won’t last
Following directions with a broken compass
Photographs and phonographs reliving the past
Double barreled shotguns are discharged with a blast
Lessons come from living and the worlds our class
We talk about tomorrow while we sit on our ass
The chance of change is cheated
And we settle for less
Admit that we’re defeated
Yet we’re convinced we impress
Our minds an endless power
That we never plug in
We puff our chests and cower
Committing original sin
