Orange Tinted Skies

October

Top Story - September 2026

September died last night,

Giving birth to October,

Causing me to be curious,

As I opened my door.

The air has a chillier bite than before,

Blowing a multicolored blanket of leaves,

Across the street,

Right to my front door.

The mountains are barely keeping their green,

Below an orange-tinted sky,

Even though it is still awake,

And will be for a little while yet.

Smells of Autumn fill my nostrils,

Making me smile,

The spices and smoky wood,

Relaxing me with its earthy tint.

I see my neighbor park his car,

Its tires slowly crunching the leaves,

Before he got out,

Cradling a pumpkin carefully.

It won't be long now,

Before costumed children run happily,

From house to house,

Showing their bag of treasures to friends.

I smile before I close the door,

And head to the basement,

Where my Halloween decorations wait for me,

Because October is here.
