One night

An oldie

Clear, midnight sky

Millions of stars overhead

Providing natural light

To the ones needing direction

She makes her way through the streets

In slow stride, no rush to end a beautiful night

Laughter resonates through the air

She smiles, admiring the people

Alcohol fills the air with each breath

She keeps walking

To a destination not yet revealed

As she recognizes a familiar silhouette

He’s revealed by the street light

As he approaches her

She wants to walk away

Yet, her body is in static movement

He’s standing in front of her

With deceitful eyes

Lies living on the tip of his tongue

He smiles, making her almost forget

She doesn’t

He begins to speak

She leans in for a quick kiss on the cheek

Her official goodbye

To the pain he put her through

She looks him in the eyes and begins to walk away

Every step taken provides a fresh tear

She begins to feel relieved

Ready to start fresh

To explore her possibilities

The mistakes that she still hasn’t made

They’re tears of joy now

She feels completely free

Still walking

No real place to go

Giving her feet control of the route she’s taking

It’s such a beautiful night

Clear, midnight sky

Bright stars overhead

Guiding her on her new path
