"Le Lit" by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, circa 1892
This must occur a billion times a day
From perfunctory to passionate, these
Dances are performed; permit me to say
This one was ours alone—how best to seize
The shining wonder of it: this frail now?
Cruel plagues devour intimacy
How to caress danger, we do not know
But from fear, for a moment, we were free
We let the obstinate membrane between
The world you are, and the world I am, break;
We showed each other all the parts unseen
Halves, strange and fragile, did a smooth whole make
Accept my humble gratitude for this:
We read, and being legible, made bliss

Another great sonnet and I love the choice of inspiration. Some great lines in here too - obstinate membrane is just so good!
