One Leaves, One Loves
A poem about endings
I’ll only be grateful, wistful, and sad
For the love we once knew -- and the one we might have had
But isn’t that always the way?
One leaves while one loves, one can’t let go,
And one can’t stay
No fault on either side and much fault in between
When we didn’t say the things we needed
Instead said things we didn’t mean
Longing only to be known, and seen
So forgive me if my grief measures in years
I live with the ghost of us walking here
I live with the shadows of what might have been
If I could have heard you —
And if you could have let me in.
