One Day, My Love

Always in my heart, Mammy.

"Bumble bees & Iris flowers"

Like the bumble bee and the rabbit, Mammy?

Yes, my darling.

Our pets, Chester and Quinny too, Mammy?

Sadly, one day, yes, my darling.

Like Aunty Jean and old Nana, Mammy?

Yes, my darling.

Like Jesus, Mammy?

Yes, my love, but...

But what happens to their bodies, Mammy?

Gone, sweetheart.

We pause for now. Not deliberate. Gently. Both quiet, we find one another. Closer. Somewhere outside the iris is opening again, without knowing who has gone.

But... they can live on.

Memories with us and souls with heaven.

They're always in my heart, Mammy.

Like you and me, Mammy?

One day, my love.

A poem for Marsden and The Wherry, and for Iris flowers.
