for pina

crocus. daffodil. chives.

heralds of the coming sun,

you stun me

perennially.

in the year the icebergs

belched an ancient gasp

of anthrax

and killed a boy,

you emerged,

frilly-lipped,

irrepressible.

though everything is dying,

not everything is lost.
