I was born old school

where the porch swings swung

Mud puddles pooled

and the crawdads sung

We found redemption

in the depths below

Claimed exemption

in the under tow

We were old school

No filtered smokes

we let the paper burn

Clean air choked us

lessons taught, hard learned

A bloodline rhythm

played when we were saved

A lack of wisdom

put you in a grave

We were old school

One foot was holy

one walked the line

Salvations red line goalie

in the nick of time

We were made of thunder

and amazing grace

Learned to chase the hunger

never saving face

We were old school

We climbed the ladder

from underneath

A little jawbone jabber

hid behind our teeth

Ya ain't going nowhere

if you're standing still

I never drove in low gear

and I never will

We're old school....
