Oh Bangladesh

A gift of love or a cruel twist of fate

Oh Bangladesh

Oh Bangladesh, your shores wild and free,

he won’t be home; he is now with me.

We fell in love in a UK dream.

He misses you dearly; he tells me tales

of fish, the bay, and the monsoon's seasonal trial.

His home is here with me now, you see.

Please let me keep him; be good to me.

I know he misses life there,

but here’s a new start—

don’t call him back; please don’t break my heart.

He has a good job; we have a nice life.

You told him, “Get a passport, get a British wife.”

He did what you said; I know he loves me.

We’re having a baby, so he can’t leave me.

His friend from India says he’s married

to a girl from his own land.

They say when he gets his passport,

he will return to her hand.

He said it’s not true; he only wants me.

Please, Bangladesh, let us be happy—

him and me.

Let our love bridge distances,

like rivers flowing to the sea,

with dreams of laughter, life, and light,

may your shores embrace our journey,

and grant us peace,

as we build our future,

together, in harmony.
