Ode to a Shoehorn

A foot's friend

Without you, my feet feel gigantic,

Their size, perhaps the Atlantic.

I push and pull and twist them and still

They refuse to go in - so I’m frantic.

***

A shoe is meant to encase them

Not to coddle nor cuddle or replace them.

Without your firm touch and assistance as such,

I’d be barefoot without a replacement.
