O Captain, O Captain

You were iconic for many reasons

You made people happy in the fourth season

You resonate in our hearts with the ability

To make people smile

O Captain, O Captain

You lead us to a place of happiness

Why did you have to depart so soon

You had an amazing gift

The gift to make people laugh out of their heads

The way you talked was magnificent

Your high-pitched masculine voice was iconic

When I think of you

I think of your voice

You’ve made us laugh in different forms

As a blue genie, you granted amazing wishes

Your animation stunned the world for children and adults alike

Dressing up as a woman made us laugh with joy

When you were in Vietnam, what we can remember is this

“Good Morning Vietnam!”

In the jungle of the board game

You’ve made us smile while playing it

Your ability to make us laugh was unlimited

While you have been funny to us

You have also been serious on the big screen

But in all of the roles you’ve played

There are lessons to be learned from them

As a teacher, you taught us the value of life

It wasn’t about the books we read

Or the things we’ve been taught in school

It’s things we’re teaching ourselves

As a therapist, you’ve helped others by talking

Listening to them was important to you

In that role, you taught us one thing

It wasn’t our fault

No matter what we’ve been through or we’re going through

It wasn’t our fault

"It's not your fault."

You were many things on the big screen

You were Teddy Rosevelt

You were terrifying as a cold blood killer

We believed you could fly as Peter Pan

You were many things on the big screen

But somehow, some way

We didn’t know

The happiness you gave to us

Saved us from the darkness

Your laughter is the reason why we continue living

You saved us from troubled times

But we didn’t know you were troubled as well

O Captain, O Captain

Why did you leave us so soon

We didn’t know you were living in troubled times

But you saw it as borrowed times

We could have helped you

We could have given you happy thoughts

To entertain us so much

Like the Brady Bunch

You could have held on so long

But happy thoughts weren’t enough

Instead, you sailed off into the sunset

Never to be seen again

You went back into the jungle

Only this time you didn’t come out

No matter how hard we roll the dice

You went back into the lamp again

Only this time

You can’t come out

No matter how well rubbed it

You left us too soon

Way too soon

But it’s not the end of your memory

You may have departed too early

But your legacy continues

Through us and the memories, you gave us

The laughter you gave to us

Will continue to grow with us

For years to come

O Robin, O Robin

Rest well you legend

For the many times, we think of you

We have never had a friend like you
