Numbers of Summer
Some days we simply count; others we live...

Twenty nineteen— a blaze so fiery
Between two souls who saw each other clear
Two zero two zero came with tiring
Showed that anyone can confirm our fears
But once we see our worth, we’re past the worst
In twenty one, only real love, no hurt
Already it’s not just another year
See, in summers past, someone I know well
Bathed herself in flowers, sunshine and hope
As lovers bask in the heat’s hearty swell
It would last for a time, then seemed to go
Despite sweaty brows, hot-as-hell long nights
Even an abuser’s warmth will turn cold
That’s when she counted as each summer passed
Entries in bright colored journals on grass
Tears kept her skin cool and pain kept her safe
She won staring contests with clouds in dazed
Flurried affectionate offerings for
The universe to grant her something more
Now she counts blessings, not warm wasted days
She fell so deeply for a man so brave
He opened his heart, his eyes, mind, and lungs
It’s sweet as summer inside of his hugs The mission she’s on now is of large scale
To help the others remember their worth
So the sun can light the way, and love prevail
The Solstice of love, the longest war won
