Not Your Best Friend

lyriic

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 19 days ago 2 min read

[Verse 1]
Don’t place our love in a trendy phrase
That fades with every changing age
We are so much more than easy words can hold
A promise written deep in our soul
You know the quiet parts of me
The vows no crowd will ever see
Not just a hand to hold for awhile
But home beneath your tired smile
[Pre-Chorus]
What heaven joined, let no one name
As something small or temporary

[Chorus]
I’m not your best friend, I’m much more than that
I’m the other half God designed to be your match
Don’t diminish what is sacred and true
With trendy words that can’t carry us through
I’m your covenant, your shelter, your side
The one you walk with for all of your life
I’m not your best friend when your heart knows why
I’m the answer to the dreams you prayed inside

[Verse 2]
I’ll learn the shape of every scar
And meet you where the hard days are
I'll be there When sadness fills the room
I’ll be there when celebrations bloom
And when the years have changed our faces
I’ll choose you in that older grace
No borrowed title, no disguise
Can tell the truth behind our eyes
[Pre-Chorus]
What heaven joined, let no one frame
As something casual or temporary
[Chorus]
I’m not your best friend, I’m much more than that
I’m the other half God designed to match
Don’t diminish what is sacred and true
With trendy words that can’t carry us through
I’m your covenant, your shelter, your side
The one you walk with for all of your life
I’m not your best friend when your heart knows why
I’m the answer to the prayer you prayed inside
[Bridge]
Call it holy, call it chosen
A living vow with doors wide open
When the world reduces what we share
I’ll stand and say, God placed me there
Not a season, not a label
But a grace beneath this table
Two lives joined by faithful hands
One great love, one lasting plan
[Final Chorus]
I’m not your best friend, I’m much more than that
I’m the other half God designed to match
Don’t diminish what is sacred and true
With trendy words that can’t carry us through
I’m your covenant, your shelter, your side
The one you walk with for all of your life
I’m not your best friend, hear my heart testify
I’m the answer to the prayer you prayed inside
[Outro]
More than a name the world gives away
I’m your chosen love, day after day
