Not In Love

Love when you’re old

Not In Love

I see couples on tv

couples in their cars

couples together

couples apart

But I also see so much more

when couples have grown old

when their running on burn out

from the lies they were sold

There is no love forever

stirring in their eyes

just the sure blunt dullness

of an old butter knife

Resentment still simmers

like a favorite dish gone cold

replaced with the aroma

of love when you’re old

So I think I’ll skip the bouquet

and learn to soar alone

and fill the wind with freedom

of being on my own

When dusk begins to settle

and my life brings me a smile

I won’t mind being old

and not in love all the while
