The interview began that day

In front of twenty-four.

My nerves were shot to pieces

as he opened up the door.

*

I stood in front of everyone

and forced an anxious smile.

Don’t look so terrified he laughed

It’s not a murder trial.

*

Squinting at the clock above,

obscured through stinging eyes.

The hands of death, unnatural,

read 36 Fahrenheit.

*

He offered me some menthol.

You can shove some up your nose.

Then sliding out the metal tray,

a body was exposed.

*

This is Clive, he’s forty three

got squished under a bus.

You’d better show him your CV,

before he rots to mush.

*

An eerie ease washed over me

while gazing on the corpse.

This porters job is yours my friend,

the others all ran off.
