Not a Flame

Lyric

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

[Verse]

I held your hand in a paper dream

But The edges tore

And The ink ran clean

We built a house on shifting sand

But we were only borrowing the land

[Prechorus]

I said forever with a voice so light

But my heart whispered something wasn't right

[Chorus]

I loved you like a friend

Not a true flame

The promise I left

It carried my name

I walked away

Left the weight behind

Because loving you as a wife

I couldn't abide

[Verse 2]

You wanted stars

I gave you streetlights

You craved a fire

I flipped on a flashlight

I wrote you songs

But the tune felt within

Showed the end before we could begin

[Prechorus]

I gave you words that I thought were true

But they weren't enough

They weren't for you

Chorus]

I loved you like a friend

Not a true flame

The promise I left

It carried my name

I walked away

Left the weight behind

Because loving you as a wife

I couldn't abide
