What is normal?

What is normal?

I often wonder…

…who set the limit of acceptable behavior?

…who said you can go so far, but one step more is too much?

…who decided?

And why did we listen?

Why is that the goal?

To be normal?

To me, normal is:

average

ordinary

boring

bland

forgettable

How do we, as a people, not realize

the ones we love and celebrate

the ones we hail as great

the ones we want to imitate

are not

the ones who blend in

the ones who fade into the background

the ones who look just like everyone else

but are

the ones who dared to be different

the ones who choose to stand out

the ones who embraced what makes them unique

and yet, we still want to be normal

Is it because it’s more safe to remain

faceless, nameless within the crowd

than to risk

being noticed, judged, found lacking, and outcast

not loved

not accepted

not normal
