what isn’t there

We saw the horse twice. An even

trade for

Odysseus’s self-sabotage?

Lack of clever follow-through

eradicated

in blockbuster fashion

with a Hollywood ending,

hero and his love

sailing into sunset,

editorial sagacity exemplifies

hubris

in the editing, omissions necessary,

names not spoken, provocation

of Poseidon purged for

Zeus’s Law

The horse was Athena’s idea.

And where is Aeolus,

what lesson lost with the bag?

The year lost languishing in Circe’s bed?

Hermes? Hermes? (absence)

No underworld Anticlea,

no fatal grief

let that sink in

Nausicaa non-existent, no

Phaeacians, no mortal ship,

as if Nobody

never existed

and the gods play fair.
