No Smoke Without Fire
That’s the way the cookie crumbles

No Smoke Without Fire
They said it quiet,
like truth in a dare.
No smoke without fire.
Like they knew something.
Like the flame was mine.
She laughs too loud,
she walks too free,
she left before
he could leave.
That’s what lit it.
Not rage.
Not revenge.
Just refusal.
She didn’t burn bridges.
She walked away.
They threw the matches.
They saw the smoke,
they never saw
the buckets she carried
to put it out.
They don’t mention
the blisters she hid
or the nights she spent
smothering sparks
that weren’t hers.
They said
she’s trouble,
she’s bitter,
she’s too much.
But she only ever
said no.
That was the fire
they feared.
And the smoke?
Let them have it.
Let them cough on it.
She’s done explaining.
Truth doesn’t shout.
It waits.
Unburned.
Unbothered.
Still standing.
