No Regret

a poem

passageways and alleyways

old gravel paths and trails

carousels and wishing wells

proof of life under my nails

clinging to life at any cost

to save myself regret

caution to the wind of want

drowning in a sea of debt

a poet of sorts, albeit inept

following the steps of those before

beautiful words from ones since dead

a self proclaimed word whore

Emerson and Whitman

and of course, Edgar Allen Poe

combining lyric to the rhyme

Homer, Yeats, Frost and Thoreau

yet none have touched my heart as such

not like the likes of you

living deliberately out of touch

come in varied shades of blue
